Several years ago, before my husband and I moved to Pensacola, some friends invited our family to visit the city to attend Gallery Night. We drove into town on Friday evening, unloaded our two young daughters into their double stroller, and joined our friends on the streets of Downtown Pensacola.
Gallery Night, it turns out, was the perfect introduction to the city. Once a month, on the third Friday, locals and visitors take to the street and sidewalks in Downtown Pensacola along Palafox Street for the free art festival-like event that showcases many different aspects of Pensacola culture in a single outdoor venue.
Palafox, one of the city’s most iconic streets, is shut down to motorists from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. during Gallery Night, creating one long, pedestrian-friendly entertainment district from Garden Street to Main Street. All ages can enjoy art exhibits, food trucks, musical acts, kids’ activities, and special events hosted by shops and restaurants.
Each month Gallery Night features a different theme. From a Lunar New Year celebration in January to Juneteenth in June, Sustainable Summer in July, and Trick-or-Treat in October, just to name a few, each event is designed to have a diverse and family-friendly appeal.
Many of Gallery Night’s musical acts play later into the night, and the crowds do tend to skew older as the night goes on and the bar scene begins to pick up. But for the most part, Gallery Night is an event I would not hesitate to take my family to, especially in the early evening hours.
There is no parking along Palafox between Garden and Main streets during Gallery Night, so leaving your car in one of the nearby parking lots or parking garages may be the most convenient choice. There is free parking at Community Maritime Park which is in walking distance to Palafox Street.

There are a ton of delicious food truck options to choose from at Gallery Night. Food trucks not your thing? No worries! Downtown Pensacola has a plethora of restaurants to enjoy. I recommend making a dining reservation if that's the route you want to take - it can get pretty busy on Gallery Night. Click below to check out some options for dining Downtown.
When you are in Pensacola, make a point to go to Gallery Night for art, entertainment, and fun activities the whole family can enjoy.
